Finding and Hiring a Lawyer
Use the search bar to search by practice area, firm name, or city. You can also browse by category such as Family, Criminal Defence, or Corporate, or browse by location to find firms in your town. Each listing shows the firm's practice areas, location, and contact details so you can reach out directly.
In Kenya the two terms refer to the same person. A person who has been admitted to the Bar is formally called an advocate, while lawyer is the everyday term. To practise, an advocate must hold a law degree, have completed the Advocates Training Programme at the Kenya School of Law, been admitted to the Roll of Advocates, and hold a valid practising certificate.
Legal fees in Kenya are governed by the Advocates Remuneration Order made under the Advocates Act. This Order sets minimum fees for many services such as conveyancing, company formation, and litigation, and it is an offence for an advocate to charge below the prescribed minimum without good reason. Beyond these minimums, fees vary based on the complexity of the matter, the advocate's experience, the location, and the urgency. Common fee structures include fixed fees, hourly rates, and for some civil claims, contingency arrangements. Always ask for a written fee quotation before instructing a firm.
Visit the Law Society of Kenya portal at online.lsk.or.ke and search the advocate's name. The portal shows whether the advocate holds an active practising certificate for the current year. The status will display as active or inactive, and it can also show if an advocate has been suspended or struck off. A valid practising certificate runs from 1 January to 31 December each year. If you have doubts, you can also request a Certificate of Good Standing or contact the LSK Compliance department.
We take reasonable steps to confirm that listed firms are registered legal practices. However, we encourage you to do your own due diligence before engaging any firm, including confirming the advocate's current practising certificate on the Law Society of Kenya portal. Inclusion in the directory is not an endorsement or a guarantee of any firm's services.
Some firms offer a free initial consultation and others charge for it. Firms that offer a free first meeting are tagged with Free Consultation on their profile. Filter by that tag or ask the firm directly when you make contact.
Yes. Any transfer, sale, or charge of land or property in Kenya should be handled by a registered advocate. Conveyancing involves title searches, preparation and stamping of transfer documents, and registration at the lands registry. The Advocates Remuneration Order sets the minimum conveyancing fees, which are usually calculated as a percentage of the property value.
No. We are a directory that helps you find law firms. We do not provide legal advice, do not represent clients, and do not act as an intermediary. Any legal advice or representation comes from the firm you choose to engage, on terms agreed directly with that firm.
Yes. Searching and browsing the directory to find a law firm is completely free for the public. There is no charge to contact a firm through its listing.

Contact us at info@lawfirmsinkenya.com or through the contact page to get started. We will set up your profile with your firm name, description, practice areas, location, logo, and contact details. Your firm must have advocates holding valid practising certificates from the Law Society of Kenya to be listed.
A Standard Listing is KSh 20,000 per year and includes a full profile plus eligibility for the Featured rotation. Top Law Firms pinned placements range from KSh 25,000 to KSh 50,000 per year depending on the location. Display advertising is KSh 400 per day. Full details are on the Pricing page.
A Standard Listing includes a full firm profile with your name, description, and contact details, all relevant practice areas, your location with a map pin, your logo and photos, social media links, direct enquiry to your email, and eligibility to appear in the Featured Law Firms rotation on the homepage and city pages at no extra cost.
Featured Law Firms is a free rotating section that every Standard Listing is eligible to appear in. It shows a selection of firms that changes regularly. Top Law Firms is a paid pinned placement that holds a fixed position at the top of a chosen page for a full year, limited to three slots per page.
We accept M-Pesa, bank transfer, and PesaPal card payments. Monthly installment arrangements are available on request. Your listing goes live within 48 hours of payment confirmation.
Standard Listings and Top Law Firms placements run for twelve months from the date the listing goes live. We will notify you before your listing expires. Renewal is not automatic unless you arrange it.
Yes. Contact us with the changes you would like and we will update your profile. Keeping your information current, including practice areas and contact details, helps the right clients find you.
No directory can guarantee specific results. We optimise every listing for search, submit profiles to Google for indexing, and include structured data to improve visibility. However, search rankings and how many enquiries you receive depend on many factors outside our control. A complete, well-written profile performs significantly better than an incomplete one.
A listing puts your firm in front of people actively searching a dedicated legal directory, provides a backlink from a Kenya-specific legal domain that supports your own website's SEO, and helps you appear for searches you might not rank for on your own. It complements your website rather than replacing it.

Law Firms in Kenya is operated by Naimar Agency Ltd, based at Renaissance Centre, Elgon Road, Nairobi. It is an independent directory dedicated to connecting people with law firms across Kenya.
The order in which firms appear reflects listing arrangements such as Top Law Firms placements and the Featured rotation. Placement does not indicate that one firm is better than another. We do not rank firms by quality. You should evaluate each firm on its own merits.
The directory covers law firms across Kenya, from Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru, and Eldoret to smaller towns including court stations across all regions. We are continually expanding coverage as more firms join.
